Twenty-nine years ago, Mr. Jorge Chan arrived in the United States with a dream and a passion: to bring the delicious Peruvian cuisine to this corner of the world. In 1994, his dream became a reality with the opening of “Rocoto,” a piece of Peru in the heart of Los Angeles.
The story of “Rocoto” is filled with tradition and a love for food. The Chan family comes from Chinese immigrants who fell in love with Peruvian culture. Grandma Ana had a “chifa” restaurant, where she blended the flavors of both cultures, and her legacy lives on in the kitchen of “Rocoto.”
Chinese immigration has left a significant mark on Peruvian cuisine. The fusion of Chinese flavors and culinary techniques with Peruvian ingredients has enriched the country’s gastronomy, and “Rocoto” is a clear example of how this influence has endured over the years.
Today, his children, Jorge Jr, Janelle, and Christhian Chan, continue this culinary tradition, bringing the authentic flavors of Peru to your table. From fresh ceviches to delicious anticuchos, in “Rocoto,” you’ll find a piece of Peru in every bite.
